Naming, calling, and quoting — “is called / says”
JLPT N5 文法 〜と言います 解説 (名前・引用)
⏱️ Study time: 5–7 minutes
〜と言います (to iimasu) is the standard pattern for introducing names and saying what something is called. The particle と acts like quotation marks — it wraps whatever comes before it. Use this pattern to say "My name is ~", "This is called ~", or to report what someone says.
