|---|---|---|
| どこ | Casual / neutral | 駅はどこですか。 (everyday) |
| どちら | Polite / formal | 駅はどちらですか。 (in customer service) |
💡 At N5: どこ is the standard form you'll use most. どちら appears in listening and polite expressions (どちらさまですか = Who are you? / May I ask who's calling?). Know both, but どこ is your everyday choice.
1. “Where is Mr. Tanaka?” — choose the correct particle for a living being (polite).
2. “Where are you going?” — pick the correct particle.
3. Which is the polite version of どこ?

どこに focuses on the destination or location where something exists. どこへ emphasises the direction of movement. With 行きます, both are correct: どこに行きますか and どこへ行きますか.
Yes, in casual speech: トイレどこ? = Where's the toilet? But for polite Japanese and the JLPT, use どこですか.
Use どちら in formal situations — when talking to customers, superiors, or in business settings. At N5, どこ is sufficient for most situations, but you should recognise どちら in listening.
